Oct. 31st - Nov 1st Halifax
Hurricane Sandy's fringes were still sweeping over Halifax but apart from one and a half days of fairly heavy rain, the spectacle was rather anticlimactic. Despite that, we were not in the mood for camping at the moment so we were grateful to find a contact in Halifax where we could stay for a few days. It was at an apartment with three students, Becca, Vicky and Christian, and dog Riffraff.
At first we were going to camp on their porch because the apartments' size and layout was not exactly conducive to accommodating more than 3 people but Vicky offered us her room. Supposedly Becca's mattress was more comfy than hers so this was a good excuse for her to sleep on Becca's big bed.

While staying with "the students", we were given some local dumpster diving tips. An organic grocery store just a few blocks away leaves all its dumpsters unlocked and there is a good chance you can find the most amazing food items if you swing by the place on a regular basis. Well, lets check it out. Needless to say, it was a most amazingly successful dive. See picture below. Mounds of veggies and more Greek Liberte yogurt than we could carry. Mmmmmm is this stir fry I am smelling......?
Cheers to travling, bicycles and dumpster diving!!! (me, James, and Becca)

One morning James and I decided to do a bit of exploring along the waterfront. The weather looked pretty good but soon it started spitting again. James offered to buy me a drink somewhere sheltered. Sounds good!  First we thought of getting a hot chocolate at Tim Hortons but as we came around the corner we spotted Alexander Keith's brewery. We had had numerous occasions along our trip where we were offered Alexander Keith's beer and really liked it. However, we did not know the brewery was a Halifax local. No time to lose; in we go!

Yay, Red Stag Tavern here we come.

Cheers to some good Canadian beer!!! (The red amber ale was my favourite). Unfortunately they had no brewery tours that day but even just being in this old brick building was great. These walls must have endless stories to tell, if only they could talk.

Riffraff wanting back inside after a visit to the back yard.
THANK YOU BECCA, VICKY AND CHRISTIAN (AND OF COURSE RIFFRAFF) FOR THE GOOD TIMES!!! WE LOVED STAYING WITH YOU ALL!!!!
