DAY 1

My first day got a most splendid start. My former coworker, Manuel, just moved to Victoria this weekend and of course he could not help himself but to treat me to an amazingly fancy breakfast experience at the Empress Hotel. I must say I felt a bit out of place pushing my loaded bike down the exquisitely decorated maze of carpeted hallways.

Mile 0 here I am with Champagne at 8 am!

I think my bike liked this stuff more than I did!
Many thanks to Manuel for seeing me off and taking so many photos!

 Good bye Pacific...

PS: Pigs mean good luck. I happend to come across 4 of them.
It was great meeting Cory and Sam at the ferry terminal. We obviously have a common goal :-) (and we all brought our harmonicas for entertainment). Have a great ride you two. Perhaps I will see you Burlington.

This is a quick glimpse of my first day. Thanks for reading my first OFFICIAL entry. Woohoo Linda is a blogger. I thought this trip would give me a break from technology but I think I was quite wrong about that. See you tomorrow. Good night.

TransCanada2012 Lesson #1: Dont follow signs, follow the map (and make sure you have one)!
because it sucks to get stuck on a super narrow shoulder with trucks whizzing past you inches from your nose and a big fat ugly sign saying "Bicycles Prohibited". Huh? Wasnt there a sign just a few hunderd meters back directing me to take this route? Yeah that was unpleasant and a bit awkward backing up my bike and not getting run over. (Dont worry Mom, I am unscathed).
