May 18-19

James knew of a nice guest house owned by Blagica and Angel in Ohrid, Macedonia, where he had stayed twice before and our plan was to spend three nights there given there was still room for us and the price was good. For some reason we were quite worried about that because we craved a few days off the bikes but being on a very tight budget there was the chance of having to shorten our "holiday" or just continue riding if the price was too high...ie. more than €15 per night for both of us. Sounds crazy but we decided to bargain for that. We prayed that Blagica would give us a good deal and that there would still be a room available for us.

When we got there Blagica first served us delicious Kiwi juice. So refreshing! She wanted to know all about James' trip but we could not help feeling somewhat tense because we were so anxious to find out what the rates were. When we asked what she charges for a double room we almost could not believe our ears.....€14 per night for both of us!!! Even better than the best we had hoped for, no bargaining required, and it turned out that we were the only guests, so we didnt just have a choice of rooms but had the entire apartment, kitchen, bathroom to ourselves. THANK YOU!  WHAT A TREAT!

There was a huge, fantastic market down the road. A real fruits and vegetable heaven that seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see. There were also lots of vendors who sold pretty much anything you could think of....think super cheap Dollar Store on steroids. Perfect, because we were in need of some random items (charger plugs, crocks etc.) The man in the pic sold me my pretty white crocks (crocks are a type of very comfy shoe, also known as "holy soles"). He really put quite the effort into digging out the right size for me. Most were too big or too small. The egg lady loaded us up with about 30 eggs (great for hungry cyclists) and I FINALLY found an adaptor plug at the other ladie's stand. It's about time since both camera batteries had about 1% power left.
We bought loads more food there, big bag of spinach, one kilo onions, loads of tomatoes, half kilo Macedonian white cheese (like a mild feta), one litre yogurt, lettuce, 1.5 L beer, and some more stuff I cannot remember now....all for about €8.
IT IS SALAD TIME!!!
