The previous night we stayed with Marco, who we met through the online cyclist hospitality service "Warmshowers". He showed us amazing pictures and videos from his tours in muddy Ethiopia, South America and desolate Mongolia. His family has a big garden so we were served home made apricot juice and yummy kiwis.
Marco accompanied us on the bike to Lipica, the home town of Lipizan horses.
From there we continued on to Skocjanske jame Park and then to the Slovenia-Croatia border where Marco works as a border guard. We just could not miss out on the cup of iced coffee he promised us to be waiting for us there.
THANKS MARCO FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY AND ALL THE GOOD TIPS!
Skocjanske jame Park is where the Reka River disappears in the mountains and follows a subterranean pathway to the Mediterranean. The park includes several caves accessible to visitors and nice walking trails which take you to view points from where you can see the river emerge and then disappear into the mountains again.
At the Croatian border we met Tomi and Maja, two touring cyclists from Slovenia. We ended up camping together on a hill in a quiet, forested valley.
WAS GREAT TO MEET YOU TWO. HOPE TO SEE YOU IN BANGKOK!
