Dec 3- more coal dust

Location: Lingshi,  China

This was our last day before reaching Pingyao where we were going to take a rest at a hostel for two days. The ride today was good, not very eventful. A bit less industry, the air also cleared up a bit so you could see some hills in the distance but the coal trucks were still rolling strong. Some of the brand new bridges we have seen are just amazing and huge. This country is booming beyond anything we have ever seen. Oddly enough though there are still so many people who live in very primitive conditions (no running water, only pit toilets etc.) while others live like any wealthy, modern western person would live.

In the evening we asked to camp at a little truck stop beside the road and the guys said we can sleep in a garage. Not soon after though the boss showed up and he said we can stay in the office. What a treat. Mind you it was not the cleanest place but just being inside, away from the traffic noise and dust along with a hot water kettle was a real God send. James politely smoked a few cigarettes with them. Smoking or drinking tea together in China is equivalent to having a beer together in Canada and although James does not smoke, in circumstances like this one it would have been very rude and ungrateful to refuse. (Thanks James!)
