Two nights at the Jipek Joli Hotel ("Silk Road Hotel") were to be our treat after this desert stretch. The hotel was lovely with a beautiful courtyard but unfortunately the service was terrible, the breakfast portions very stingy and no tea or coffee refils. The kitchen even managed to mess up our lunch order eventhough we were the only two people in the restaurant at that time. The lunch bill was another disappointment. We were charged the "tourist price". A few days later we got a heaping plate of the same dish, complimentary tea and much better service for less than a quarter of the price at a little road side restaurant. Sorry Jipek Joli but you are not so jolly after all. Very disappointing.
But, having our own room, a bathroom, hot shower and wifi for two days still made for a great, restful stay. We spent several hours wandering around the bazaar trying new foods, admiring the beautiful fabrics and searching for the best deals on travel food. I love these bazaars. So much to see, smell and explore. Produce, bread and various baked goods, biscuits, cookies and candies galore, hardware, electronics, random junk (treasures), spices, meat, soap, underwear, shoes, somsas, delicious fried things.....etc.
