Location: Beruni, Uzbekistan
After a long, windy day we reached the small town Beruni where two years ago a kind family had invited James to stay with them and told him to stop by if he is ever in the area again. We had no phone number or address and James could not remember any names so we rode up and down the road in the hope that he would recognize the house. No luck. Things change a lot in two years. It was pitch dark by now and we were tired. We tried to ask some people if they knew someone who had hosted a cyclist two years ago but the language barrier was too high for successful communication. What to do? We really needed to sleep so we decided to just ask at the next best house if we could sleep on their property. Lo and behold, the first house we knocked at turned out to be the one we had been looking for. The lady recognized James before he realized we had found his friends' house. We had a fun evening with the family and they even made us comfy beds to sleep on indoors while the bikes were safely parked in the living room.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY AND FRIENDSHIP! WE CAN HARDLY EXPLAIN WHAT SUCH A WARM WELCOME MEANS TO US. THANK YOU SO MUCH AND ALL THE BEST!
