Nov. 8- Schwarzenegger Pizza

Location: Osh, Kyrgyzstan

We checked into the Osh Guest house, which is basically just a small apartment that has been turned into a hostel. It is run by a group of very religious muslims so there were several signs reminding people that this was a pork and alcohol free space. Initially we got a very bad impression because the staff member who was at reception in the morning seemed to not understand how to check people in so he just ignored us and took up the entire bench in the small lounge leaving us to stand in the hallway. Later however the two owners showed up and they were really cool and funny. One of them even spoke a bit of Swiss German. Having a bearded muslim dressed in the religious garb in Kyrgyzstan ask me "Bisch mit em Velo unterwägs?" was the last thing I expected. So funny!

Once checked in we set out to explore the bazaar and locate Cafe California where we were going to treat ourselves to some western food. Two big salads and a Schwarzenegger pizza! Yummy, just like home! It is amazing how taking a bite of certain foods can seem like you are being teleported to a different part of the world.
As we strolled back through the bazaar we promptly ran into Jeppe who was still shopping for warm clothes. Well hello again! And he too was staying at the Osh Guest house. We cooked the same buckwheat-squash stew for dinner as we had made in Tanya's apartment in Tashkent and exchanged stories of how we got out of Uzbekistan.
