We felt much better today after the long restful night. So
far Highway 93 had been quite a nice ride with wide shoulders and good surface
but as soon as we passed Wikieup things changed. The highway kept switching
from four lane divided to super narrow two lane with a very narrow shoulder
whose entire width was taken up by the rumble strip. On those stretches we
basically had to ride in the lane competing for space with surprisingly heavy
truck traffic. One truck almost ran us off the road and it took me a few
minutes to get my courage back together to keep riding. Thank you Lord for
keeping us safe! It almost felt worse than back in Georgia where the driving was
simply chaotic but here it felt anti-bicycle and hostile. It was such a relief
when we reached I-40 where the shoulder was back to its comfortable width. We
found another lovely camping spot between two juniper bushes and a nice view of
the valley.
