July 2 continued - Price, Utah

Price, Utah was another hot desert town. We found refuge in a Chinese Buffet Restaurant which was absolutely fantastic!!
At the time there were many wild fires burning around the Price area but luckily none of them were along our route. Below you can see the evening sun pushing thru the clouds and smoky air.

Due to the hot daytime temperatures we decided to do some night riding because the stretch from Price to Green River is pretty much completely uninhabited and it is just bare desert with no place to find shade during the day. We stocked up on food again and we had a hard time leaving the grocery store because almost everybody who passed us wanted to hear where we were from and where we were going etc. One of the men, his name is Tom, who talked to us is an army vet who fought in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was so nice and made us wait so he could run into the store and buy a bag of cherries for us. WHAT A TREAT!!!! Food becomes the all and everything when you cycle long distances everyday!!!
We finally left Price shortly after 9 pm and rode into the night. The full moon was out and it was so bright we did not even need to turn the lights on on our bikes (except for when cars approached). What an amazing, spooky, relaxing ride. The air was still filled with smoke so the moon light was an ugly brown and the horizon looked hazy. Stretched all around us was the flat desert and a few rocky hills. Infront lay the dark highway which disappeared into the smoky horizon.
We took a short break at an unexpected rest area. There we chowed down on those wonderful cherries from Tom. THANK TOM!!!! THEY WERE DELICIOUS!!!
At around 1 am sleepiness set in. We set our goal to get 100 miles on the tripodometer today so at around 1:30 am we set up camp behind a little hill next to the highway. Yay camping in sand!!!!!

We had no clue what our campsite looked like when we set up so this is what we saw in the morning. Very nice and deserty.
