July 3-4 Arches National Park

In Green River we had a quick lunch and despite the heat we decided to push on to Moab. (Crazy! we must have fallen in love with the heat) Time to douse our clothes under the hose and hit the road!

Our soaked clothes dried within a few minutes and we were out on a freshly surfaced, black highway under the sweltering sun. Hm, not good. We were told there was nothing between Green River and Moab so we got a bit worried until we spotted a little airport beside the highway. What a life saver!!!!! We took refuge in the wonderfully air conditioned building, chatted with some of the travelers and I even got all our laundry done in the bathroom sink. I got a few odd looks but nobody complained. It was worth the effort though because our clothes emitted a rather unpleasant odour.
Later in the afternoon some clouds moved in an we were able to ride on. Here is James on the beautiful bike bath towards Moab. No, I did not photoshop the red sand.

MADE IT!!!
We rode into Arches National Park after the office for getting back country permits was already closed. We decided to try and reach the campground on the far end of the park but just could not do it. Too hot, too tired, too far. So we stealth camped (illegally! dont tell) behind some bushes. It was a bit unnerving because the spot was right next to the highway but nobody spotted us.

Early morning in Arches Park.

Just love the red sand!!!

It looks like the bikes are enjoying this too. Lucky for them they cannot sweat.

If any of you are ever in Utah, Arches Park is definitely one I can recommend. It is relatively small and super bizzare and stunning!!!!
