It promised to be another hot day on fast highways without much scenery so we plugged in our earphones and b-lined to Pocatello. Ryan Farish, Bobby Solo and the Irish Rovers are great company on days like that!!! We stopped at Walmart to stock up on photo card materials for our Trip Support card business and then camped on a farmers field again. We had the most amazing dinner.....Curry Pancakes!!! If you think that sounds gross try it. Just add some (=lots) of Curry powder to some pancake mix and voila....fluffy ready-to-eat deliciousness with an exotic tough!!
Below, old silos beside the highway outside of Pocatello.
On the 28th we did not get very far since the temperatures shot up quickly. We stopped in a town called Downey and ended up spending most of the day there. A very friendly lady who lived next to the park where we hung out came over to us periodically and gave us useful information about the area. She also invited us to come over to her house to use the bathroom and shower if we needed to. We took her up on her offer after eating an entire bag of tortilla chips, a jar of always delicious salsa and some beer and pina colada. What a treat!!! THANKS FOR YOUR KINDESS COREEN. IT WAS SO GREAT TO MEET YOU!
Good Bye Idaho; Welcome Utah!
Next day we got stuck in a hot canyon during the midday heat. We thought we could get to Brigham City for lunch but no way. Too hot. Although the picture below looks quite attractive, it was quite a sweltering siesta location. Trouble was we had hardly any food left and water was running out slowly too. Not the most pleasant way to wait for the sun to settle behind the hills while the cycadas put on a concert in the tree canopies.
June 30th, finally, Salt Lake City!!! After several hours of early morning riding, we found a nice shaded park where we spent the majority of the day. I craved some water melon so I rode down to the nearest grocery store, strapped the melon on my bike and then we ate one slice after the other until we thought we would explode. Soooo yummmmmy!!!! A game of tennis ball throwing was a good way to liven up after the hot midday hours.
Once it cooled down a bit we continued riding and by fluke came across the SendOutCards headquarters. When I was here in January for the Mastery Event I would have never in my wildest dreams imagined myself standing infront of this door with my loaded bike. As James likes to say "You never know what's gonna happen!"
Life is adventurously unpredictable. Love it!
We kept riding for quite a while but just could not get out of the sprawling suburbs. So we pulled into a quiet neighbourhood and asked if we could camp in someones yard. The Youngs warmly welcomed us into their house and even fed us an amazing dinner with fruit, salad, sandwiches and brownies for dessert. It was so great to meet you all. THANKS FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY!
