We left Ali's place shortly before 6 am. His mom loaded us up with the rest of the Yufka bread, a tub of olives and a small bag with that red pepper/thyme spice mix we like so much. Ali then accompanied us for a few kilometres on his bike.
THANK YOU ALI, MÜZEYYEN, ÜMIT, ISIK, FEVZI AND ZEYNEP FOR THE HOSPITALITY AND THE GREAT MEMORIES WE NOW HAVE OF DENIZLI. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN SOME DAY.
About half way to Dinar we stopped by a small rest are opposite a police station. Several cops were siting by the road doing traffic control. One guy waved us over for tea but we did not really feel like socializing. A few minutes later however, the station manager came over to us and invited us to come sit in the nice cool garden and have some tea. It was so nice sitting there in the shade of a big walnut tree, sipping tea and chatting with Selçuk, who spoke very good English. He then invited us to stay for lunch because his staff members were preparing a barbeque. In the meantime Selçuk showed us the large vegetable garden he and his staff had planted behind the station during their spare time. What a good idea!
We ended up spending about 6 hours at the police station, drinking tea and enjoying the cool shade in the nice yard.
THANK YOU SELÇUK FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND FOR MAKING US FEEL SO WELCOME. HOPEFULLY YOUR DREAM TO TRAVEL TO AMERICA WILL COME TRUE!
Along the final stretch to Dinar we came across a giant spider with two massive grabbers on the front which looked like a fifth set of legs. The blue object next to it in the picture is my standard size Swiss army knife.
In the evening we stopped at the PO gas station in Dinar where James had been able to camp on a previous trip. The owner was very welcoming and immediately called his son Semih who James got along with well last time.
