June 17- continued

When we left the research center it was still very hot and we realized we should stop again and wait a bit longer before riding on. There was no gas station in sight but we prayed for one because the heat was getting unbearable. Unfortunately, the road we were on just skirted the city and then headed out into open, uninhabited rolling hills of golden grain fields. No gas station or shelter anywhere. That's a problem and turning back to the last intersection was too far. Just then we noticed a gravel road turn off the highway and leading up the hill past a small clump of trees. Better than nothing.
We turned off the highway and slowly made our way up to the trees. To our great surprise we found a big well among the trees with icy cold water splashing into the trough. Wow! We sat down on the edge of the trough and stuck our feet and arms into the cold water. Amazing. I had spotted a lonely plum tree earlier that day whose delicious golden fruit we now snacked on. Over the course of the next few hours several people showed up at the well to fill large water containers. Supposedly the water was also very good to drink!!!
It was such a beautiful, quiet spot, shade from trees and plenty of water for cooling, washing and drinking. Much better than a gas station! God so often does not give us what we ask for because he has something much better in store!
Behind the white front wall of the well was a small platform with a roof. It did not seem to be in use so we ended pitching our tent  there for the night. So nice!!!
